In these instances I find it useful to compare the letters to other letters on the page that were written by the same person.  I think we could help more if we could see more of the writing.

The first letter looks like G to me, so it would be useful if there were another G on the page to compare it to.

Thanks, I think it's Digges Street now, because the first letter looks very like the D in David, and not much like the B in Butcher.

Unfortunately there is no G anywhere else to compare with.

The word below the name is definitely "Mark" because we can see an M elsewhere (in Male) written with a lovely flourish, and also the K at end is like the K in Kevin.

My source work on the Irish Times contains the following for No.12 Digges Street       for January 4th 1886:
         John Heslin- Jailed for Burglary
