Heage burials??
« on: Monday 05 January 09 07:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi my ancestors are buried in Heage Parish church graveyard.
My Turner ancestors were from this village and one day I hope to discover the graves of them ,does anybody live in the area and are able to check if the graves are still there?

Heage - I used to spend a fair amount of time there. I can't help with the burials, but I can tell you that Heage is just about the only place left in Derbyshire where they say "ay" and "oh" for he and she. Or, if I'm wrong, there'll be a barrage of angry postings soon  ;)

Not an angry posting, but  there are many more places other than Heage where locals still speak in the wonderful dialect .
heanor, Codnor, Langley mill, Ilkeston, -and especially certain parts of Eastwood Notts -among them.

Just in case you are not aware, John Spendlove has transcribed Heage burial registers
1819 - 1894, there are some marriages and Bpt.

Fantastic work
You are very welcome to copy out the date from my website or put in a link as we have listed but not yet fully researched the men named on the Heage war memorial - one of which is my husband's great uncle - Ernest Cockayne of whom we have a photo
