Hailsham and Eastbourne 1871 request
« on: Tuesday 08 February 05 23:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi

After several frustrations, I have tracked down my paternal great-great grandparents, but need a bit of help looking further back and wonder if someone may be able to locate them in 1871 census returns..

My g-g-grandfather was Samuel William Robins, born in Hailsham in about 1862. He would therefore have been about 9 in the 1871 census.

My g-g-grandmother was Louisa Duly, born in Jevington near Eastbourne in 1864. In 1881 she is listed as working alongside an Ada E Robin (born in Hailsham in 1866) as a servant, so I am guessing that Ada was the sister of Samuel above, and that he and Louisa met through Ada.

Therefore I am looking for a 9 year old Samuel Robins in or around Hailsham, and a 7 year old Louisa Duly in Jevington or Eastbourne area.

Any help in locating these two main individuals would be most gratefully received.

There is no sign of any Ada E ROBINS in 1871.  Perhaps she was the Eliza (dau of John & Sophia)?

Best wishes

Wow!!!  :o

That was quick!

Many thanks. This gives me a lot of information to check, re-check, double check and verify.

I can quite believe that the Eliza would have been the same person as the Ada E(liza ?) Robin on the 1881 census. Perhaps the people she was in service to called her Ada. Sounds possible, but who knows!
