hi
I emailed the bereavement services from the address the kind gentleman gave me. they give me a grave number,i still don't know where my grandparents are buried. surely someone should have a plan layout of the cemetery for people like me looking for love ones.

Did they say they don't have a map?

Most cemeteries are divided up into sections so a grave number might be e.g. 482 M - meaning grave 482 in the M section. The precise position of one grave with no headstone is not always easy to find but if you have the section number, can be shown where that is on arrival (if not obvious), if there is a stone you can just walk through until you find it.

Assuming there is a known section, a stone and its not under a mass of brambles, of course.

hi Bernard
had a look round the cemetery for the grave number they gave me but no joy, just emailed them again to see if they can help me any further. when i asked them about my grandparents, they told me they have a burial record for my grandfather but not my grandmother. they are both buried together in the same grave, how come they got no record for her? Don't they have a sexton who looks after the cemetery? That person would have a good idea of location of graves.

On the record. Phew! Clerical error? At Swansea Council the names are recorded in date of burial order in a burial register but also on a separate grave register so that - errors permitting - you can see a grave and who is in it, no matter how long apart the burials were. I'd have thought they would have something similar? Assuming the cemetery is still manned I'm surprised that they've not asked you to come along and meet the sexton so he can show you around.

In very old cemeteries it can be difficult to tie the grave register entries to what is actually on the ground. Maybe this is what has happened here?
