DHC - Lookups???
« on: Tuesday 20 January 09 19:41 GMT (UK) »
I am going to Dorchester - Dorset History centre tommorrow (Tues 21st).
I am happy to do lookups for people but need a few limits...

I won't have time to blanket search so you'll need to be fairly sure what your after...

*grans wedding 3Q 1855 in Shillingstone

*gran married in 1895 in the Blandford District & lived most of her life in Stickland, her hubby was from Durweston

*fred and his siblings were all born in Pucknowle can you find their baptisms...

You get my gist... a lot of the earlier records are transcribed so they are a bit easier to track down, if your not sure I've got a list of all the Dorset parishes with what's indexed so can give you an idea if what you need will be simple or more complicated. I'll need to know mostly by about 1am (UK time obv) but will do a quick check before I go in the morning... I've got to catch a bus at 9.30 and I'm not a morning person  ;) so if I don't get a lookup before I go I'll check in a couple of weeks time.

Jen
Brickwalls... Dean in Brecknock, Freeman in Bedfordshire
Working on my girls tree...
Richer (Essex & suffolk)
Legg, Hunt, Ellis, Wareham (Dorset, Blandford & abouts)
Cannell , Cowley, Christian (Liverpool & Isle of Man)
Sherwood, Jeff/e, Bland, Sharrard (New forest)

Also interested in Paradise/Paradice in Gloucestershire

Trying to figure out the Davis family of Winterborne Abbas and where they originated (before about 1780)

Hi, as i live in australia i would be grateful if you could look something up for me, if you have a chance.
william elliott b 1801 handley, dorset                                married   Mary Frampton  at pentridge 20/1/1822
his father: William Elliott    :  born 1772?????
:  married Mary Parsons 19/5/1799 at sixpenny handley dorset
:  died 28/12/1814 (aged 42) at sixpenny handley dorset
I need to find his baptism certificate - i would think it is handley as all the family so far has been from handley- unless he came from somewhere else?

If you could check handley baptisms in 1771-1772 for William Elliott, Ellet, Elot, eliot, elyett   i would be really grateful.

I have been on there but cannot find william elliott born around 1772

As he does not appear on the records he maybe from a neighbouring village.
Have a look on a map and plot out an area then check the opc site to see if it is listed for records.
You may be surprised how far they moved around the areas.
It may take a while to check each village but easier than trying to read from fiche as a look up believe me.
