REES IN GLAMORGAN
« on: Thursday 10 February 05 17:03 GMT (UK) »
Thomas Rees is a very common name in Wales.
How can I possibly figure out which one is my Thomas?
Information I have on this side is that his daughter
Maria Rees age 18 residing in Pentre Ystrad was married Oct 29, 1879
in the Carmel Chapel in the district of Pontypridd.
Father lister as Thomas, profession hauler.
Husband William Overton from Porth Llanwonno.
Any possible suggestions?
Terri

does this possibly  match with an 1871 census?

another quandry is that she may have been called Anna Maria.

OR

she may have been born in 1859 (sept 29,1859) is listed on her death certificate)

The 1861 Census was taken in April of that year so if Maria was born in Sept 1859 that fits as she would be 1 at that time.

1871 shows them living in Cefn Pennar, Aberdare

Thomas Rees   52   Head   Aberdare
Ann Rees   30   Wife   Aberdare
Eleanor Rees   1   Daughter   Aberdare
Elizabeth Rees   6   Daughter   Aberdare
Jane Rees   4   Daughter   Aberdare
Maria Rees   11   Daughter   Aberdare
Elizabeth Thomas   35   Boarder   Aberdare

Thomas seems to have aged dramatically but that may be a transcription error.

FYI - any births, marriages and deaths would have to be registered in the Pontypridd district so this ties in with the marriage registration

No - that is place of residence at time of census.

POB was recorded as Merthyr Tydfil for all except Elizabeth who was born in Mountain Ash Glam.

Address is 1 Frwd Crescent - Ann recorded as Green Grocer - Thomas as Coal Miner. Checked and his age is 32 not 52  :)
