I have a record of christening for Sarah Moses 12/04/1758
Lower Halstow Kent.
Parents;
Richard Moses and Mary

Can SKP help me to find marriage for parents. I think Sarah had a brother called Jacob.

I've got Lower Halstow Baptisms 1692-1876

There's nothing for a Sarah MOSES in 1758, only one in 1778.
The couples having children baptised are:
Jacob & Margaret, Jacob & Mary, Thomas & Sarah, and Zaccheus & Mary.


Lower Halstow Marriages 1692-1837

Only two for MOSES:
Jacob to Margaret RADSHAW
Zaccheus to Mary FORREST

The only reference to a Richard MOSES that I can find in Lower Halstow is a Burial, 31st December 1796, no age given.

I found record of Christening for Sarah Moses 12/04/1758 Lower Halstow Parents Richard Moses and Mary ?? on IGI.
Do you think that this record may have been ommited from records. ( Kent Family History )
Sarah married James Hubbard 16/12/1776 Halstow.
One of their children ( they had ten   Jacob who was born 08/01/1791 married Lucy ??
They had a son Richard MOSES Hubbard 01/07/1827 Hartlip.
Richard married X3 times in 1830 Jacob Lucy Richard went to Canada.
James Hubbard died and Sarah went on to marry George Sellings Halstow 1798.
If I can find record of her death as Sarah Sellings it may give her age.

Hello Victoria,
                         You may have heard on here before never trust the IGI without a batch number. I add to that Never trust someone elses transcription.
                        I found the Baptism of Jacob and Sarah Moses on the 12 April 1758 at Lower Halstow .Unfortunately the christian names of their parents are completely whited out on the film .
                       I could not find any Moses marriages prior to that date other than Zacceus and Mary.
Which would suggest Richard and Mary married in her parish not Halstow.(as was usual and still is in many instances)

There is a Marriage Licence for James HUBBORD of Hartlip, hub. bach to Sarah MOSES of Halstow, minor at Halstow 16 December 1776. Sarah was under the guardianship of Nicholas MESSENGER, gent. - father's will. 

So the above Richard could not be her father.

Could you explain this please. If she was under guardianship doesn`t that mean she was under 21 years of age ? Why could Richard not be her father.

The marriage says that Sarah was a minor (under 21) so her guardian gave his consent in the absence of her father.

The burial that Betty found was in 1796 - 20 years after the marriage.

Her father could still have been called Richard, just a different one.

There is an Archdeaconry Court of Canterbury will for Richard MOSES of Upchurch made in 1768 (probate 1769)  PRC17/98/252a
