Slaters Commercial directory of 1894

Briscoe Joseph J. & Sons, coach builders, 16 Nassau pl. and 9/10 Summer hill

(Nassau Place is listed  being at 9 Nassau Street.)

listed at the same Summerhill address in Thoms of 1884

no mention of the business in Slaters of 1881

in Thoms of 1880 theres a  Mr. Michael Briscoe,  living at 9 Summer Hill. In the same directory 16 Nassau place is not listed but at no 18 there is a Robt. Saunders, coach builder.

In 1877 a  Richard Fitzpatrick ,drap. mart is at the Summerhill address.

Thank you both for your very prompt replies.

My Briscoe family were in Scotland by 1901, and can be found in the 1901 census of Glasgow.

The directory entries are new to me, other than Summerhill and I thank you for this information.

there's a number of records on IGI for the surname Briscoe in Dublin between 1869 and 1877, including 6 about children to a  Joseph John Briscoe and Bridget Briscoe neé Eggliton.

My grandfather, Patrick Briscoe was born 1869 in Dublin, his father Michael Briscoe was a coachsmith, he died young, Patrick's mother was Margaret Jennings, she remarried a Grey or Richard Dowman and had two more sons, one Thomas Joseph Dowman, who stated on his WW1 Glasgow, enlistment that he was born in Dublin.

Michael Briscoe's father was Hugh Briscoe a  smith who died in 1868 in Dublin giving his address as Jervis Street.   Both Patrick Briscoe.   and Thomas Joseph Dowman died in Glasgow Scotland.   The eldest son of Patrick, who was born in 1901 in Glasgow, informed me that his father took him to a big yard in Dublin where all the Briscoe relatives worked.  This is why I believe that the Briscoes who were coachbuilders and harness makers in Dublin are related to my grandfather.   If you can think of a way of increasing this knowledge I would be greatly appreciative.

Anne.

1850 Dublin directory:
Briscoe James 2 Jervis street
Briscoe John F. Esq. 3 Summer hill
www.libraryireland.com/DublinDirectory1850/b.php

IGI lists two children with parents Michael Briscoe and Margaret Jennings - not sure if they are siblings of Patrick (b.1869) but wonder if Catherine could be his sister 'Kathleen'?
Catherine Briscoe born 30 Nov.1867 Ireland
Mary Briscoe born 29 July 1874 Mullingar, Westmeath

Yes it looks like Catherine (Kathleen) is a sibling, she was born in Mountmellick, Queens Co. and I know that there is a connection with Queens Co. I do not know about West Meath, since I do not know where or when Michael Briscoe died.

Henry Briscoe of Jervis St. and James Briscoe, seem like  positive connections also.

Why have I never used this service before, I have recieved more information in one day than in several years of research on this side of my family
