William Murray of Boyndie
« on: Saturday 24 January 09 19:10 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information about the death date for William Murray (born Boyndie 14 March 1826, married Elizabeth Runcie Ordiquill 11 Feb 1865)? They lived in Boyndie. The census of 1891 shows him as family head but he is not mentioned in the 1901 census - Elizabeth is head.

I suspect he was buried in Boyndie between 1891 and 1901.

Thanks for any help that anyone can provide.

Was Elizabeth roughly about 16 years younger than William as I have found an entry on the Aberdeen and North east Scotland Family History site, under the Index to Monumental Inscriptions that could be a possibility.

The names given for stone number 113 in Alvah, Banff (booklet reference AA108 from ANESFHS) are as follows:

Annie Murray - 26 May 1873
William Murray - 18 June 1885
William Murray - 29 March 1893
Alexander Begg Murray - 13 November 1904
Jessie Murray - 22 March 1910
John   Murray - 12 Jun 1925
Elizabeth Runcie - 12 Oct 1931

A quick check of Scotland's People shows an Elizabeth Runcie, other name Murray, born 1843 aged 88 dies in Banff, Banff in 1931.

Lynn:

This is inded the family. Elizabeth was that much younger than William and the children's names match those I've been able to find in Scotland's People, as well as Elizabeth's death in Banff in 1931. So you have successfully solved a mystery for me. (When William died.) I now have the BMDs for all of my 16 second great grandparents! Thanks so much.

I see from the parish map that Alvah and Boyndie are close together. Not sure why they lived in Boyndie but were buried in Alvah. (Perhaps Alvah church was closer and they therfore worshipped there?)

Thanks again.
