Dryfesdale Cemetary, Lockerbie
« on: Sunday 25 January 09 12:56 GMT (UK) »
Looking for a grave location in the graveyard for Archibald Graham and his wife Isabella Jackson, its location is Section 2 grave 615.

Does anyone have a grave location map a web search has drawn a blank, maybe just missed it?

The headstones are in a poor state in the graveyard and seem to have weathered badly compared to older graveyards I have visited locally?

Thanks in advance

Wul

Hi Wul
You may have tried this already.

Have a look at the beginning of Shannon's survey of Dyfesdale in 1967 in the Ewart. Occasionally sketch maps were drawn.

Hi Billy,

Have you tried the Cemetries section of the Local Council?  I think they are based in Annan.

Thanks Reiver and Kojak, been really busy with my part time career...fixing computers for people, so I have not had a chance to follow up as of yet.

There is no headstone at Dryfesdale Cemetary for Archibald Graham and his wife Isabella Jackson, only a grave that is why I could not find it!

Hi Billy,

If you make contact with the Council's cemetries section you should be able to purchase a lair record for the graves (if you want them).  I have a lair record for my ancestors in the old lochmaben cemetery and it is quite revealing as it should tell you who paid for the lair and at what cost and even how deep the graves are !

Good luck with your searches.

I am interested in the records of grave lair records as I have never heard of them before . Would you think there would be one relating to Mouswald graveyard? Thanks stoop.

Hi Stoop,

Yes, almost certainly.  Graveyards which still have lairs available need to know what has been "used".  Give the Council a call and see what you can find...

Good Luck.
