Brixworth northamptonshire
« on: Monday 26 January 09 12:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Could anyone tell me how to access the parish registers for Brixworth.
I have a death for Ann Stray 1849 registered at Brixworth, but no other information. Help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You will get more details by buying the Death Cert  - like address, name of informant, cause of death etc.

Parish registers would be of a burial (if she was buried, rather than cremated, probably given the date, as I dont think they did cremations then!) and you would need to know the parish for anyone to look at them for you - the Registration District in the Death indexes will be a Registration District and will cover many parishes
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Hi there and Welcome to Rootschat.

I have just checked on FreeBMD for the death ref for you,but cannot see an Ann Stray dying anywhere in Northamptonshire in 1849.

The only one it throws up is a lady of that name AGED 49 in 1871.

Northampton Record Office hold the registers.

Or you could get the film of Brixworth parish burials sent across to an LDS (mormon) church near you.

Where did you find the info from?

In 1849 the Brixworth Registration District covered about 36 parishes.  This number was doubled in 1936.

Sorry ,
Yes Ann Stray was 49 when she died in 1871. I have been searching for a Ann Stray born 1822 for years, and when this death came up I got carried away. I have never used anything like this before and do not know what I am doing.
There is in all probability no link whatsoever.
She was living in Lenton Notts in 1861 but from then she just disappeared, she was a cook and she was single in 1861.
Thanks

Since she died in Q3 1871 can she not be found in the 1871 census?  That should give a much better pointer to the parish where she died.

However if I have the right Ann (born in Lincolnshire) she appears to be back there at census time.

Hi,
Thank you very much, I tried the 1871 census but no luck there.
I would not be surprised to find a workhouse death or something, if she married after 1861 her name would not be Stray, but I cannot find a marriage either.

Thanks

Okay then, looking at that entry in 1861 finds that she was sister in law to George Winfield,Ann was 38 and born in Musson Lincolnshire,as was George's wife Mary.

Pretty conclusive that they were sisters,as the term sister in law would suggest  ;)

Ref RG9/2449 folio 106 page 21.

Have you found the Winfield's in 1871?

Off to try that next.......and see if Ann is anywhere nearby.
