HOGGAN/TAYLOR -- we are going crazy!
« on: Friday 11 February 05 02:59 GMT (UK) »
My newfound cousin and I are working together on our Hoggan ancestry and doing fairly well!  Except..........(always one of those)....for the birthdates and parentage of WILLIAM HOGGAN, born about 1800, and MARGARET TAYLOR.  Their son, JOHN, (no birthdate) married CATHERINE LOGAN, and we have the children from there down.

We "think" our Margaret Taylor is not the one married to Preston Hoggan.  She may be the Margaret who was married to a William, then married KIRKWOOD.  The latter Margaret died in 1883 at the age of 78, so birth would be around 1805.

The marriage certificate of our William and Margaret, Dec . 4, 1827, Denny, Stirlingshire  GROS 476/00/0003 offered no further information.

We were wondering if someone would be kind enough to look up 1841 census.  Perhaps we can find the family and hopefully John and siblings? might be there.

Two desperate cousins!

No you're not going crazy!  I think all we 'budding genealogists' are a bit crazy.  Is your new found cousin called Beverley by any chance?

The reason I'm asking is that I recently sent MI's and photographs of Hoggan gravesites in Denny Cemetery, Denny, Stirlingshire to a Beverley - I don't know whether she got them or not. If you'd like me to send you these also, just let me know. I've just joined this site so as yet I'm not quite sure whether photographs can be added or not.

Anne.

Hi Anne,

Yes, the cousin is Bev, and yes she got your pics, and then shared them with me!  Thank you...........was so very very kind of you. Bev has been having computer problems, and is due to get a new one next week so I'm sure she'll be in touch with you.

I think a lot of the Hoggan frustration comes from the fact that several trees are very well done, and except for one obscure tie in through marriage, I can't connect them.  I'm really hoping when the new censuses come online on scotlandspeople we may get some new clues.

Are you a Hoggan as well?  If not, what line are you searching.....

(*) is a place I can be reached.  Thanks again, Anne!!!!
