Missing in action...
« on: Wednesday 28 January 09 00:16 GMT (UK) »
John Albert Rea born 1891/92 born in England.
I would like to know of any good sites, to find my Great great Grandfather that went missing in action.
And also and sites to search grave sites/buriel sites.
Thanks   ;) ;)

Hi tristadubrule1  :)

When did he go missing - was it WW1?
We would need a bit more information about him to be sure when searching - where was he born etc?

Have you seen this record on the CWGC website:
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=1767381

I dont have much to go by. I just have a year he was born 1891. It would have been WW2. He was married to Ann Elizabeth (Hawkins) Rea. I do believe he served time in both WW1 and WW2.  There is a stroy in the family that in the first war he went missing, so his wife had 2 children by another man. Then John returned home, and they had 3 more children after that. He then left again, and never came back. There is no death record for him. Ann Rea is wife assumed he went missing in action, because he was never found or his body was never found either.

From the information in your other thread, I'd say this is certainly your man.  Soldiers Died in the Great War adds born and resident in Redditch.

Re your other thread on this family

it seems they didn't marry till Q2 1911.  You can search the 1911 census free, but you won't find any of the children of course.  It will be a long time before the 1921 census is available.
