Churchsea-COMPLETED-
« on: Thursday 29 January 09 21:09 GMT (UK) »
Many thanks to those who replied to this post...help appreciated.
Hi
Is anyone able to tell me please where CHURCHSEA is located?

I am putting the query on London and Middlesex as most of the children's births  for this family were registered Wandsworth. However there was 1 birth registered in Windsor,Berkshire. Another was supposedly born Eton(according to 1911census)-which still needs work on.

I have tried googling Churchsea to no avail. :-\

Many thanks
Cheers Vicki (New Zealand)

Hi Carol,
I agree with you- it definitely sounds the same. I found it written Churchsea on image for 1911 census  for place of birth  of one of  my great aunts.
Her birthplace according to whomever filled out the form was Churchsea.
The child before her is shown as being born Eton (12 months or so earlier) and the one after (which was about 6 years later) was Canningtown.
Previous ones had been registered Wandsworth.
So unless there is something similar in Berkshire then I would go for what you said. Many thanks for that..Appreciate it...Cheers Vicki (New Zealand)

I agree totally with Carol, as soon as I saw 'Churchsea' listed, I just knew it had to be Chertsey.
I did spend time there as a child, it was pretty along by the river (but I am talking about a long time ago  ;)

Nice little web site here
http://www.chertseylocal.co.uk/History/index.php

It's not too much of a stretch to Eton and Windsor.

Pat ...
Every time I find an ancestor,
I have to find two more!

SUFFOLK - Pendle, Stygall, Pipe, Fruer, Bridges, Fisk, Bellamy, Sparham - all link to  Framlingham

Hi Pat,
Thank you so much for your reply. Am off to look at the link you have given me. I am also off to find some better maps. The ones I have arent at all helpful really.
The 1911 census has now thrown up so many different things for me to follow up on which is great. ;D
Thanks again...Cheers Vicki (New Zealand)

I always find www.streetmap.co.uk is a good all round search engine.
You can put in either a road name or a place and then scan out until you get a good idea of roughly where you are in the country.

Vicki

If she was born in Chertsey Surrey then her birth will be registered in Chertsey registration district. You just need to check on FreeBMD (where volunteers have indexed the General Registry Office civil registration index - almost 100% complete for births up to 1913) for her birth registration.

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

If she isn't registered in Chertsey, if you tell us what district she is registered in, in may be possible to work out her place of birth from the area of the registration district.

Regards

Valda

Hi Valda,
Thanks for your reply. Alice Patricia Hill is proving difficult to find
I have checked the Freebmd (marvellous site and credit to all who have worked so hard)
And Ancestry. and cannot find an ALice or Alice P who even roughly fits.
Definitely no Alice Patricia-

According to the 1901 census she was 5 years old and born in Wandsworth (at the time the family were living in Alexandra(Alexander) Road, registration district of West Ham in sub district of Canning Town.- this would give a yob of 1895 or 1896

In 1911 Census (living in Ilford Essex)she is listed as initials only  A P and born Churchsea  and aged 14 which would give a yob of 1897

Shipping info to New Zealand after WW1 her initials were A P.
According to age at death(Nov 1962) Alice Patricia  was 64 which gives a year of birth of 1898.

I have tried for Alice Patricia from 1894 through to 1900- nothing
Alice P same date range- not helpful

So any advice would be welcomed. Cheers Vicki (New Zealand)
