LICKFOLD, All

Hi

I'm hoping some of you may recognize this place / surname.

I've been doing a one-name study of the surname Lickfold for the last 30 years.  The name originates from the hamlet of Lickfold, which is in the parish of Lodsworth, which is near Petworth in West Sussex.

Most of the family events in that area up to the late 1800s took place at Lurgashall.  Over the years various Lickfolds migrated away - mainly into west Surrey and (of course) London.

I've been a member of the Goons for a very long time, witness my membership # 313.  However, I hasten to add that doesn't make me that old - I just started family history when in my 20s.  When I started in 1973 you could inspect the GRO Indexes at Somerset House without being crushed in the crowds!  [Apologies for the off-topic reminiscing!]

I'm hoping that some listers may have links with this illustrious name.
