silcocks/sherlocks Hoylake

I am trying to find out who my great great grandfathers parents were .He gives his name as James Silcock born 1859 in Hoylake on the 1881 census for Wales.I have his marriage cert but there is a blank space for fathers name , his birth is not registered.I am wondering if perhaps he has changed his name from Sherlock to Silcock because there is a James Sherlock born 1859 living with his grandfather John Silcock in Meadons yard Hoylake in 1871.I know its a bit of a long shot but if anyone could help me with this i would be most grateful.

A James Sherlock was registered as being born Q4 1859 at Wirral Cheshire.

The registers appear to be at The Register Office, Town Hall, Mortimer Street,

Birkenhead, CH41 5EU   - phone No 0151 606 2020
