COMPLETE Inquest into a death
« on: Tuesday 03 February 09 20:18 GMT (UK) »
hello

I have just received a death certificate for my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather in 1897.

The cause of death is shown as Accidental fall from gig, I assume that was a horse and cart.

In the informant details it shows Certificate received from John Stamford Walton Coroner for yorkshire.  Inquest held 16th July 1897.

Can anybody advise how I go about getting the details of the inquest?

Thank you

Emma

Hi Emma,

If they have survived then the local record office might be able to help you.  Not all Inquest records are available.  If not, then the record office should be able to suggest  newspapers that might have carried a report of the Inquest.

Hi, I had call to request inquest details from 1926. the local records office (Mbro) dont hold records that far back. The County Archives at Northallerton helped with this and sent the reqd docoment for a modest fee

Hi all

I thought I would let you know that I have received a reply from North Yorkshire County Record Office after writing to them on Tuesday, they have confirmed that they hold the papers relating to the inquest into Thomas Stevens' death.

I will be ordering them soon.

Thank you for the pointers.
