COMPLETED"Done Our Bit" club Kilburn
« on: Wednesday 04 February 09 03:09 GMT (UK) »
I googled 'Done our bit' club and note that it is still alive in Kilburn.
It was well patronised during WW2 and I,as a young musician, had the good fortune of playing there in 1943/44 and made a lot of good friends there.
Is anybody associated with this grand old club who can remember that far back?

Thanks for responding 'M' ........ that old club was one of the very few social clubs that kept going in WW2 and I liked it very much.
I had a very close friend who was a rear gunner in a Lancaster who intended to marry a girl who also attended the club.
Unfortunately his plane was shot down over Freidrichshaven about a week or so before the event and he was lost.
I shall never forget the great reverence displayed by all members at that time.

There was an Air Raid Warden's post in the DOB during the war and I was a messenger for them.  Most likely saved me as I was very heavily dressed because it was mid winter ready to go on duty when the V2 struck Iverson Rd.  Had my football socks on that saved my feet a bit although they got badly scalded and broken by the cooker and coats and jumpers reduced the impact of glass etc in my back.
