Gees that was quick.

My initial post here (I think) has been trimmed. As you suggested JAP I linked the site where you and others were helping me, that now seems to have disappeared?

Sorry Krisesjoint the 1887 was a typo, yes it was 1878. I had no idea when he married or if he had children, but wondered why he was listed as a visitor in the 1901 so far from his home. When distant members of my family travelled to the UK 30years ago, they were refused contact 'because of what Charles Henry had done'? Because he and Cicely (my grandparents) never married it was rumoured he left a wife and child, fleeing to Aus with Cicely after daughter Phyllis was born in Brighton in 1910. Three other children were born here in Aus.

Thank you once again for being so helpful.

Glad to help Jacksin  :)

All the best. The paper chase should confirm this all but does seem likely this is why he was outcast by the family.

Cheers Kris  :)

By the way, your initial post was not edited to remove a link. Perhaps you had meant to add the Link but did not realise you had not actually done so.  :-\ I only became aware of that thread when JAP replied. Too Hot Here. I have not been keeping track of Oz threads.

Hi again Kris,  Only about 35C/95F today in Adelaide (cool day, eh! - which wrecked those all-time records for which we were aiming) - though it's forecast to heat up again tomorrow!  Probably hotter where you live?  Cheers,  JAP

Hi Jacksin, I remember that you mentioned early on in the other thread about UK rells of CHT not being interested in genealogy - perhaps that's understandable in the light of current discoveries, eh.  Whether or not fences are mended, it is great for you that the facts are coming out.
We are not responsible for the "sins" of our ancestors - and descendants should remember that they all do share genes.

Incidentally, Kris is a Mod so she'd surely know if there had been any editing!
I suspect that there wasn't - what would be the point.
Perhaps you are thinking of the link which you did give in your other query re Caleb H on the Berkshire board??

Jacksin, all the very best for your future research and for contacts with CH's other family,

JAP

yes JAP you are right, in all the excitement I overlooked that it was the other post where I posted the 'missing' link.

Hi Jacksin,

In this case it was fortunate I was not acquainted with the Oz thread or I may have missed this as I too would have been looking for a marriage of Charles and Cicely, and totally missed the possible connection to the family he was with in 1901 and the 1902 marriage which had me look back and find she was probably their daughter.

I had already tried the 1911 and had found him in Steyning but couldn't spot a possible wife so wondered if I may have been wrong in my thinking. I was scratching my head when I couldn't find a death either. Once I became aware of the other thread and Cicely it was easy to find her and daughter in Steyning also.

Now Maria and Doris are alive and well in Trowbridge in 1911. I had missed her earlier as I had been looking for Maria. She is listed as Louisa. (Well I presume that to be the case.) You will have to download it to be sure. I see her mother and other family members are still in Trowbridge also so you may be lucky and find her residing with relatives.

Cheers Kris  :)

How did you spot him in Steyning in 1911, because they were by then (supposedly) in Oz as my father was born in  Ballarat in 1911?

Their daughter Phyllis was born in Steyning in June Qtr 1910 and they supposedly left for Ballarat a couple of months later?

Thanks again Kris

Cheers

I was just playng about really while I was waiting on you and further information. You need to go to the 1911 site and download either the images or at least the transcriptions to get fuller picture. My search criteria was Charles TANNER born Wallington and up he came. Once I knew about Cicely I looked in Steyning and she is there also along with Phyllis Jessie aged 10 months. The census was taken on the 2nd of April 1911. Cicely must have been pregnant and they left soon after.

Cheers Kris  :)

I'm back ;)

In a previous post the 1901 Census for Trowbridge Wiltshire RG13/1933 folio51/p34 lists--

Samuel Morris 55 grocer b Wiltshire Trowbridge
Maria Morris 57 b                    "                 "
Mathew Morris 22 b                 "                 "
Charles H Tanner visitor 23 Cycle mechanic b Surrey Wallingford (Wallington??)

but no mention of the daughter Maria Louisa Morris who was about 27 who Charles Henry went on to marry in 1902?

Is Maria's age above a typo? or was she missed?

Cheers and thanks in advance
