Michael and Mary Butler - Tipperary
« on: Thursday 05 February 09 15:27 GMT (UK) »
I am still wanting help with my own personal "Wall"!

I am looking for information about my maternal great great grandparents - Mary [maiden name unknown] [born Tipperary around 1812] and Michael Butler, a bootmaker, [born Tipperary around 1811] , who moved to London around about 1850 or so with their two children, James born 1844 and Ellen born 1848. I have hit a complete dead end here, and would love to find some more information about their Irish roots. I know something about them once they moved to London, but any more help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

not certain any of these are connected but I found themin Slaters Commercial directory of 1846 :

Richard Butler, Meeting lane, Tipperary Town
John Butler , Cook's lane, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary
Richard Butler , Cook's lane, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary

all  - Boot & Shoe Makers.

no sign of a Butler in the Shoe Trade in Tipperary town in Pigots of 1824 but there is -

John Butler,  Irishtown, Clonmel, Co. Tipp - Lether [sic] Cutters & Sellers

Just to add a bit of extra information to this topic, I have now discovered that Ellen Butler describes herself as born in Nenagh Tipperary in the 1911 census. This narrows down some possibilities for me, but I am still hoping to find records of any of the family. Michael Butler [born between 1811-1821] married Mary [born around 1814] [surname unknown] and their two children, James and Ellen. I have found records for an Ellen Butler born 1849 and a James Butler born 1843, but their parents are different.
Any help would be very much appreciated, especially if anyone has access to Nenagh records of any kind.
Thank you.
