old photos/books
« on: Tuesday 10 February 09 16:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi!

I recently found a book in the "Images of England" series of the area where I live. It has lots of photos of it through the ages. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is something similar for Leicester and/or the surrounding villages. I would love to be able to see what the places my ancestors lived in looked like!

Thank you in advance

TreeGirl :)

i have just returnes to the library 3 books which i borrowed to help a fellow RChatterer. these were images of Loughborough and i know the library has some villages / Lecester books too.

Worth looking at the leics library website:

also i find lots of photos and useful info at the leics villages site:

Thanks for this, Diddy. It's just that I don't live near Leicester, so I was hoping to find something I might be able to buy!

Will follow your links re photos though. Thank you very much!

realised you might not be near, but if library can help with names / details of books you can borrow from your local library on loan or buy. (I used to be a librarian!)

Which villages are you looking for and where are you?

There are a couple of Facebook pages worth joining that have old pictures of some villages. One has had a few of Kibworth on recently plus billesdon, hallaton, smeaton and Belgrave not so long back

Leicester Mercury newspaper produced a large book of old photos, try ebay. Also try google, put 'Kibworth old photos' in then search, then click on images, good luck, carolmc
