Good morning to you both.

linell, you're an angel - much appreciated - if anyone can track one down I know you will! :-*

Well, I had a look at the census (thanks, mim) and I see that it is near Springfield lane - I just found a Blackberry Lane, off Springfield Lane (property for sale details map). So, I reckon that is the area where it used to be.  Wonderful to unearth these places, isn't it, linell!
I had a look in my book on Rowley Regis, and it doesn't mention it - shows a drawing of Hailstone Farm and an old photograph of the Hailstone (gone now I believe + pub built to commemorate it).
Got a photograph of The spring House, Springfield Lane, later the Royal Oak public house - but that isn't much use to you. However, I can email these to you if you do want them, mim.

Right, off to investigate the historical directories, to pinpoint  Blackberry Town - I'm sure linell is on the photo track!

Catch up with you both later.
Take care,
Paulene :)

Hi Paulene and Mim, yes Rowley is lovely well worth a visit, shame a lot of it has been built over, but that's life unfortunately.  Not found your Pub yet Paulene, have checked my usual sites, will keep looking, best wishes linell.

mim,
I know this isn't an historic picture, but have you seen this one?

Think it must be the same pub - tell me, both of you, if it isn't.

Paulene :)

Hi mim,
I'm afraid that's all I've been able to find - nothing in historical directories, google books, google search, etc :(
Sorry, would have loved to have helped more - but, you're in good hands with linell.
Good luck,
Paulene :)
There are some books with old photos on amazon and abe books which look interesting, but whether they have a photo of the pub I cannot say - you could always post to ask if anyone has a copy of the books, and if they do than ask if they contain a picture, mim.
They may be available through library loan.
It's a pity, but the most intersting one 'From Haystacks to Chimney Stacks' is not available at the moment - but someone may have a copy.

Mim,
I think your Blackberry Town should read Blackberry Lane which is in the Springfield area of Rowley Regis. Obviously the enumerator was not a local chap

Well done, linell - does the Hailstone Inn look anything like the new one?
Thank you for looking :)

Hi Paulene, linell & John,

Sorry I've not replied earlier to all the wonderful info posted today but apart from linell's  personal message I've not received any emails informing me of  all your new messages on the site.

Paulene - what a find at the auction house! As you say wonder if it is still there! Also thanks for pointing me in the direction of books on Rowley. I did have a fleeting visit to Rowley a few years ago but it was mainly to look at St Giles church & churchyard and did not have time for much else.

Anyway, once again - many thanks for everyone's help. Very much appreciated.

mim
