hello,im trying to find the marriage of mary ann spain born 1857 ramsgate to person unknown and not having much luck.on the 1891 shes living with her parents william and mary, and on the transcription shes described as mary spain.but on the actual record shes described as married and her name is either mary ann(spain) or mary  amos, its difficult to read.there is a william amos living with them, born 1884 i believe in ashford, kent, hes described as nephew.any help uncovering who she married would be greatly appreciated, thanks, nel.

Nothing definite, but as there doesn't seem to be a Mary Ann Spain marrying an Amos - it's worth considering that Mr Amos may be her second husband.

Searching for a possible marriage of an Amos to a Mary Ann in Kent shows up a John Henry Amos with the same GRO reference as a Mary Ann Barrow, March quarter 1883 in West Ashford district.

Have you found Mary Ann in 1881?  She isn't with her parents, and  I can't see a Mary A[nn] Spain born in Ramsgate/born in 1856/7.

However there is a widowed Mary A Burrow aged 25 born in Ramsgate, living in Ramsgate (census ref. Class: RG11/ Piece: 988/Folio: 54/ Page: 22). She has a 3 year old daughter named Elizabeth.

In 1891 there is a married John Amos lodging in Swingfield in Kent - no wife with him.  He is a traction engine driver, aged 32.
(census ref.  Class: RG12; Piece: 752; Folio 59; Page 3 ).

Not found:

Marriage of Mary Ann Spain to Mr Barrow/Burrow (although there's a possible Mary Ann Spain and a George Barron in North Aylesford district in December Q 1874.  A death of a George Barrow aged 35  was registered in the same district in 1880)

Elizabeth Barrow/Burrow either birth record, or anything after 1881
Either John Amos or Mary Ann in 1901.

So this isn't enough without further evidence, but seems at least possible

I think that looks a likely scenario .................. Mary Ann SPAIN (dau of William SPAIN, horsedealer?) married George BARRO(?) at Frindsbury 12 Nov 1874 http://www.rootschat.com/links/05qn/

many thanks for all that info, sorry its taken me a while to reply, ive been away.if ive got it right,it looks like mary ann spain was only married to george barrow for 6 years before his death in 1880,thus becoming mary ann barrow.she then married john henry amos in 1883,before dying herself sometime before 1891,as john henry is a widow on that census.it will probably need confirming but looks very feasible.many thanks again for the help.
