Long shot
« on: Friday 13 February 09 22:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi

This is a long shot but...

I'm looking for a possible marriage between Henry Robinson and Mary Upton both born in England (c. 1864) but believed to be trading along the Canadian ports in the period 1881-1894 (returned to England around 1894).

Maybe some connection with Lennoxville, Quebec.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Paul

I thought this thread had momentum:

I don't see a Robinson that fits Mona's description in the Drouin Collection at Ancestry.

Thanks Geof but Mona was definitely born in England.

I'm pretty certain now that none of the family are Canadian but it seems most likely that Henry and Mary spent maybe 15 years working the Canadian waterways and may have married in that country.

Thanks again  :)

You can search the census for 1881 at the National Archives Canada Site. You can also view the original image for free.

Hi Paul,

The 1891 Census for Canada is now also free on line at the National Archives Canada site....fully indexed. There are two pages per image.

Hope the link works :)

Thank you Janice & Polarbear.

I've searched both censuses and theres no sign of either partner. Do you know if there's a freely accessible marriage index online please?

Many thanks

Paul

Marriages are by province and if you know someone who has an Ancestry account, Ontario is available and so is Quebec via the Drouin collection, nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
Cork: Sarsfield
Wexford: Hayes, Heffernan, Hennessey, Lambert, Powers, Stafford, White, Wight, Wyght
Edinburgh & Glasgow: Brown, Wilson

Nothing jumped out at me for Ontario marriages nor for the Drouin Collection in Quebec. These names are easy to spell and I did not look for variations.

I'm not familair with resources for other provinces, but I will look.
