Laissez les bon temps roulez!

I think the cajuns made out ok...warmer climes, beaches with warm water, casinos....

The United Empire Loyalists in our family were 'invited' to leave America after the Revolutionary War. They were a combination of Mayflower descendants and descendants of early Dutch settlers in New Amsterdam (the great shame even down to my childhood was that one ancestor's brother sided with the rebels, assisted George Washington's troops and was given the governorship of New Jersey as a reward).

I feel your pain...and conflict...some of my ancestors were Pilgrims, but most were Irish and Scots, all bound by a common thread of English persecution...so what do I do? Marry the first gal I meet who is related to both George Washington and the Windsors!

I have great respect for the folks of those times who were forced to make frightning life choices with NO precedent to follow...

And hurricanes - they mostly left Louisiana after Katrina.

You're right - the most thoroughly cajun branches of the family are still there.

I used to live there, and still have many friends there. The Cajun spirit will never go away, and there's still traces of it in Nova Scotia...
