Thanks Sean and Jack for all this work you have both done for me with this family   :)

I just need to try and put all this info together.

I did find a Whittaker still living in Tullamore, and wrote to them, but, I didn't get a reply  :(

I think I should have put this up before.  ::)

My gt grandmother was Eliza Whittaker, b abt 1845, Tullamore. Father, James Whittaker, a farmer. (I don't know where or when he was born), I'm not sure if Eliza had siblings.  She married my gt grandfather, John McLennan (b 1835 Inverness) 1870, Liverpool.

My Gt Grandfather was George McLennan. John his eldest brother moved to Hampstead, and had 5 sons. One of them was an officer in WW1 and was awarded the Military Cross for bravery.

Hi Sean,

I have been reading all your correspondence regarding the Whittaker family of Edenderry.  I am very interested in this family and would like to know how you found all the gravestone information.

Many thanks
Tanya

Hello Tanya,

They were got by going to the cemeteries  with my camera and recording the headstone names when I get home.

Ededderry is about 30 miles from me, but I would go there, and if I came across any other 'small' cemetery on the way, I would do likewise.

Alas, my 'visits' come to a halt for some time now as I go for a 'hip replacement ' this week and that' s at least a six week recovery, but I look forward to getting on my travels again!!

Jack

Hi Jack,

Wow, what a wonderful person you are to go and take the photos in the Edenderry Cemetery.  I am so sorry to hear of your recent hip surgery.  Just hope all goes well in the next weeks.

The reason I was so interested is that I have family that lived in Edenderry.  My people were SMITHS.  John Charles Smith, I believe is buried in Castropetre.  My Smiths married into the Whittaker group in Edenderry that you all were corresponding about.

I am actually trying to find a James Whittaker that had four daughters: Alicia, Margaret, Eliza and ?.  One of this James Whittaker's daughters (I BELIEVE) married a Robert Saunderson, M.D.  I am trying to find out any information I could on this Saunderson family in the hopes of meeting one of their descendants.

I gleaned some very interesting facts from your message boards and would just hope to go a little further.

Have a great day from Quebec, Canada.

Tanya Smith
