« on: Wednesday 18 February 09 12:20 GMT (UK) »
1881 Toxteth Park

M.E. BUTTERWORTH, daughter of William and Margaret (nee BURNETT) b. c1877

speculate she is Margaret Elizabeth b. Jun qua 1877

but also a Mary Ellen b. Dec qua 1876

do you have either in your tree?

thanks

Thanks to the GRO search facility I now know:

BUTTERWORTH, MARGARET  ELIZABETH     (m.m.n. - BURNETT)
GRO Reference: 1877  J Quarter in WEST DERBY & TOXTETH PARK  Volume 08B  Page 223
(she married on 11 Oct 1896 at Toxteth, St Matthew, Lancashire - to Robert (son of Thomas) Foster

NB:
BUTTERWORTH, MARY  ELLEN     (m.m.n. - WILLIAMS)
GRO Reference: 1876  D Quarter in WEST DERBY & TOXTETH PARK  Volume 08B  Page 262

Now all I need is to find out what happened to the mother, Margaret Butterworth (nee Burnett) who in 1881 is living at 23 Court 1 House (next to 59 Mann Street)

Her husband William Butterworth appears to have died in the workhouse and was buried on 30 March 1891 at Toxteth Park Cemetery, Lancashire (section 7, grave 315)

The search continues!

Yes good question  :-\

Have you found any of the children in 1891 census?

There may have been more children born between 1881-1891 that may help trace Margaret.

It's not helping is it  :-X

Margaret could have married again but hardly before 1891 census as William had only just died.

Anything is possible but there are marriages for some of the children in the 1890's and they appear with spouses in 1901.  Haven't found Margaret with any of them.  What a puzzle.
