Lewis family - Gresford

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me trace any of the Lewis family, Gresford, pre-1841ish please.

I have record of them in the 1851/61/71 census etc but can't find them on the 1841 census and can't seem to find any parish records for Denbighshire on Ancestry.co.uk 

The parents of the family are Thomas Lewis born c.1799 in Hope, Flintshire and his wife Sarah, born c.1801 in Ruthin (Efenechtyd). On the later census records when they are in their 50's and 60's two of their children are still living with them, Emma born c.1839 in Gresford and John born c.1841 in Gresford.

I would assume there would have been more older children, can anyone find any records relating to this??? Or Thomas and Sarah's marriage?

Any help would bem much appreciated. Thanks!

Were they still in Flintshire on the later censuses.  The only Thomas Lewis b Hope on the 1851 was b 1800 and married to Eleanor

Hi,

No, it was only Thomas who was born in Flintshire, the family as a whole never seem to live there. He must have moved to Denbighshire at some later point. This is where Sarah, his wife, is from, and where both of their children are then born. As far as I can see they then stay in Denbighshire in the areas of Acton and Gresford.

I just can't seem to find them prior to the 1851 census.

Yes, those are the ones. At least it's not just me who can't find them 1841!

I couldn't see a marriage for Thomas & Sarah in Gresford, Ruthin or Hope
or baptisms for any of their children in Gresford

There are two possible baptisms in Hope for Thomas
Born 16. Baptised 18 May 1800. Thomas Lewis s/o Thomas & Anne ( nee Winpenny) abode Uwchymynydd Uchaf.....................or
Born 2 Baptised 19 April 1798. Thomas Lewis(Bagnel) father John mother Ann Griffiths. Abode Caegwrle.

Thanks for looking, that's very strange that you couldn't find the marriage or children's births either but never mind.

Thanks also for the details of the two possible births for Thomas. Can you tell me what the (bagnel) is?
