BLAKEs of North Wraxall/Collerne - COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 19 February 09 15:51 GMT (UK) »
Chatters and any Moonrakers present,

I anticipate hiring LDS film number 1279302 which shows the C of E parish church records of N.W.   Before I do so, I'm hoping that somebody can confirm that the William Blake given as a submitted entry in the IGI was indeed baptized there in about 1807.  I think it likely that some or all of the submitted entry is a fairytale and I prefer not chasing fairies!!!

The W.B. in whom I'm interested married Diana GOLDING by Banns at N.W. on 25th May 1823. Two of their children were William Golding Blake born in Colerne 1837 and Catherine born in Chippenham Union in 1843 - I have b-certs.

If somebody finds "my" william was born elsewhere, I will hire the film of its records instead and be eternally thankful.

Here's hoping.

Regards

Chas

Hi Chas,

William BLAKE married in 1823 so born in 1807 did not sound right to me. On looking further I note he is aged 40 in 1841 and aged 52 in 1851 (b North Wraxall)

William BLAKE bap 24 Nov 1799 North Wraxall parents William and Hester

no other baptisms that I can see, but there is Sarah Ann Bach BLAKE born 21 Jan bap 1 Mar 1811 mother Hester

Looks like the next Blake baptised there is George in 1823

William BLAKE = Hester BAKER 31 Oct 1799 North Wraxall

Cheers Kris  :)

Kris,

Thanks for the reply and info.

I'd noticed the discrepancy in dates which is one reason I thought all of the submitted entry was likely to be a fairtale!

I suppose that to the LDS it does not matter about an inaccurate date and location in a submitted entry.  The important thing to them is that he/she had indeed lived so that he/she could be baptized by proxy.

Even if the person had never existed I suppose it does not really matter for a non-existant person has no ghost to come back and haunt anybody!

Once more thanks, I'll order the 1677 to 1923 parish register film next week.

Regards

Chas
