From the National Archives website:-

Service Records

The National Archives is not the place for service records, as these are still with the Ministry of Defence.

Ex-servicemen and next-of-kin may obtain brief details by writing to: RAF Disclosures, Room 221b, Trenchard Hall, RAF Cranwell, Sleaford, Lincs, NG34 8HB
Researching: Reffell, Rattle, Summerhayes, Dane, Masset, Burchatt & Leshley... & Jones!

You are very welcome Steve.

I got my uncle's service record a while ago, and although it did not have a great deal of information on it, I was then able to use the records at Kew to find out how he died in 1942.

The Royal Air Force Records Office is at Innsworth, Gloucester.

You will be told when you make your enquiry the fee that is required.

Even better is this site

http://www.raf.mod.uk/links/contacts.cfm

I think you will find that the one at Innsworth Gloucs is for medals and not service records

As Ricky says only medal records are now held at Innsworth, service records were transferred to RAF Cranwell when the RAF Records Office at Innsworth closed 2007/8.
