Actually there have been a few queries regarding recently immigrated men turning around and signing up to
go to war...so it did happen. Don't think anyone fit and age to serve would ever have been turned away.
Checked the 1911 and didn't see him....looked across the country, as my grandfather signed up in Valcartier,
but lived in B.C. and Manitoba prior.

I had a great uncle who immigrated with his parents to Canada in April 1912, went back to England Dec. 1913, returned to Canada May 1914 and then signed up in Canada in July 1914.

I have always wondered why he didn't just sign up in England.....perhaps he came back to say goodbye to his parents just in case ???  If he did it was a good idea...he died Feb. 1918 of his injuries.

Hi everyone

Thanks for your replies.

Dollylee- Thanks for your link, I have a record of his regiment number an have checked it against the one held by collections Canada and that is him.

Someone has kindly replied to my post in the Canada look up request section, and they have found a possible match for William on a ship that sailed to Canada in 1904, so I am going to look further into this!

Thanks

You also should consider ordering his WW1 service file from the Archives. Would probably yield some good information as where his pay was going.

Also in the 12th Battalion nominal rolls, the place he enlisted could be written.

Good idea Danny. I have 2 g-uncles that migrated from B'ham to Ontario in 1907 and returned to fight in the war. I will be ordering their service record files veery soon. I did this for my g-grandfather who also fought in WWI and was a wealth of info payroll and medical records among others. Apparently (from field conduct sheet) he was quite the scrapper and ended up in the infirmary a few times :-) Even got dental record when he was returning home.

Hi

Has anyone ordered a service file from the Canadian archives? Just wondering on the cost of have it produced and shipped to the UK. I would love to get a copy of it to see what info it could reveal!!

Also on the post I placed in the Canada look up request, someone found a match that could be William travelling to Canada. They suggested I check the ship's manifest, but when I search there is no record for it?!

Thanks
