Hallo again Ian,

It has just occurred to me that the 1841 details you've just unearthed, plus the 1851 and 1861 details posted earlier would correspond more closely, in fact, to the James son of William & Sarah HUNT b. 1799. I may have my James's confused and Maria was the daughter-in-law of William & Sarah.

And the 1871 Census showing James, widower, aged 60, b. Longcot, could correspond better with James, son of Angel & Martha born 1808

As for the 1832 burial of James aged 24 I don't know where that fits in yet. It could possibly be the James born 1808, in which case the one in the 1871 Census is yet another one !

I'm going to have to stand back from this one and think objectively !

Anyhow, many thanks for all your help as usual. Greatly appreciated.

Nick

Think the James in 1871 is the James son of William and Sarah. Census was late March or early April and he was buried 24 April. Age is a bit out in census.

The James buried in Faringdon in 1832 aged 24 fits with being born 1808, and son of Angel and Martha.

Having had time to think about it since our exchange earlier, I think I've come to the same conclusions as you.

I agree the James buried in 1832 was very probably the James, son of Angel & Martha born 1808. It fits well.

As for the 1871 Census, you reckon on an enumerator's wobbly ? Is the age clearly indicated on the return or difficult to read and could be either 60 or 70 ?

The only other James HEAVENS that I know of in the vicinity was born 1755 in Longcot, son of John HAVENS & Elizabeth TILLING (or STILLING), but that would have made him very long in the tooth !! Don't know as yet when he died.

Many thanks for all your time and help.

Nick
