Looking for records regarding parents and localities (either birth places or residences)for John Frederick Turner born 1820 and Mary Ann Nott born 1835? Marriage date 28th march St Johns Church Adelaide South Australia. Not sure if parents of John and Mary Ann were born in South Australia or overseas.Australian electoral roll data would also be handy. If anyone can assist me with details I would be much obliged. Thanks Erika.

Hi Kris,
Can't thank you enough for all the information you have supplied regarding this request.I have printed it off and will relish going through it all and adding lots of new info to my ancestry tree.I really had drawn blanks here although a look up at my local library mentioned a Mary Ann Wilkes, so your details put that into perspective.I have also tried to access a lot of South Australian material through the local Ballarat Genealogy Society. Not having much luck though regarding on line access to things!!I am more familiar with the way the Victorian system works and being able to peek at details on line with BDM for a small fee means less mistakes regarding lineage etc.For interests sake,my grandfather,Charles Hayman was one of Marian Turners children. His father is Francis Edward Hayman.Once again much thanks.I very much appreciate your assistance. Cheers Erika.

Glad to help Erika,

The marriage entry was the key.

John Frederick TURNER 44 status not recorded father John = Mary Ann WILKES 29 status unrecorded father Thomas NOTT 28 Mar 1864 St John's Church Adelaide Dist Ade Symbol A 57 214

This is the most likely entry I can see for Thomas's arrival into Australia although Christian names are not listed, there is a wife and child mentioned which would tie in with the BISA, as the oldest child does not appear to have been born in SA.

Hi again Erika,

There is a little more information for you as to residence listed in the burial records

Matthew WILKES was buried West Terrace Cemetery 28 Sep 1861 aged 34 years residence given as Grote St. Also his son Charles was buried WTC 25 July 1861 aged 17 months residence Grote St.

Next I note

Ann TURNER was buried WTC 23 Nov 1863 aged 39 years residence Grote St.

So John Frederick and Mary Ann were both residents of Grote Street when they lost their respective partners and they remained there

John Frederick TURNER was buried WTC 25 July 1892 residence Grote St
and then

Mary Ann TURNER was buried WTC 29 Jan 1895 aged 61 years of Wright Street (just 2 streets from Grote St)

Cheers Kris  :)
