Colour and Date Lady in a Hat please
« on: Saturday 28 February 09 14:13 GMT (UK) »
This elegant lady is most likely from the Tamworth area. The photo is a 'postcard' type with 'Correspondence' and 'Address only' sides. No other identifying marks.

Shame to consign it to the rubbish bin   :'(    So perhaps someone can rescue her   :)

Thanks
Dave

The way you describe the card would date this after 1902 which is not much
before this was taken at around 1905 I would say.

Thanks Mudge and Jim.

That dating now gives me a good idea who the lady could be.

That hat's huge...I'd agree with Jim but maybe push the date out as far as 1910...say between 1905 and 1910?

What a hat!

We have our granddaughter (3 going on 30) staying over so I'll have to get back to you tomorrow. 1905 to 1910 looks fine the lady who I think was the subject, was born 1886. I'll put another photo of her on tomorrow.

I think this could well be the same lady b. 1886 and perhaps about 20 years old in this photo.

Interesting...it could be the same person, but I'd say she looks closer to 30 than 20 in this photo, and the date is likely later. That neckline and very relaxed pompadour hairstyle puts this photo after 1913, perhaps toward the end of the war as light-coloured fabrics were becoming more popular then.

Even more interesting, to me anyway...I've been researching a Genders family from Birmingham, possibly Tamworth. Did any of your lot, particularly a Joseph Genders, disappear between the 1881 and 1891 censuses? Because I know where they went :D

Genders is an unusual name.
