Is it some sort of typo muddle or mis-understanding of 'Air Mechanic RAF'?

I got the information from the Leeds Library page.

Surname Forename No.         Rank  Unit                 Ref no.
nussey   george a   24773   cpl   m o c a r a f   4243lw

I've been trying to guess all day!!  I've googled it but nothing.

Check it out here;  http://tinyurl.com/d9nj3v

Not wishing to blow our own trumpet too much, but I think you'll find more than enough expertise on here!! ;D ;D ;D

Now then...

What we need is a copy of the ORIGINAL document to see if it is a misreading or what....We can then carry on to interpret it! ;)

For starters, it would be unlikely that it is all in lower case... ;D

Looking through some of the other entries on that absent voters list, some of the abbreviations as given are terrible  :(
In some cases 2 units served in have been given as a single abbreviation, or indeed others that should be split are pushed together,
eg d a c r f a, a s c w r f a, r f c r a f, r o d r e, r e k m r, w r f a r a m c, and other such gems  :)

So m o c a r a f  should perhaps be split into m o c a & r a f .
RAF is obvious, the other ???
Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

I love the other Nussey one.... Unit= Died of wounds!!!

Blimey!!! Who did they pay to transcribe this lot?? St Dunstans?  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Oh no, couldn't be...they would understand some military terms! ::) ::) ::)

I thought the RAF bit was a given... ;)

Perhaps looking at the other ones on there, the "a" is "and"!!

I bet it is AOC and RAF!

Given that this is Leeds, D of W could be Duke of Wellington's to be fair  ;)
But I think I'd go with your suggestion, AOC & RAF
