Harrie Whittaker
« on: Monday 09 March 09 13:18 GMT (UK) »
Please could someone look up a Harrie Whittaker in the 1891 census. He was born in Scouthead near Oldham but I think he may be living in Prestwich Newton near Manchester in 1891.  The Harrie I am trying to trace was born Harrie Liptrott, but was brought up by the Whittaker family and took their name. I would be very grateful if anyone could find out anything more.
Many thanks

Wow that was a fast response, many thanks. I don't know if this is the Harrie I'm looking for but it has given me more information to help me find out. I had been lead to believe Harrie was brought up by a family of Ostlers near Belle Vue Manchester. In Genes Reunited I found this Harrie in Newton and wondered if this could be him.
Thanks again :)

Is this guy the right age for your Harrie? you didnt give a yr of birth for him.

I cant find a birth reg for Harrie Whittaker around 1880 or Harrie Liptrott either!

Yes this would be about  the right age for Harrie as he had a son in 1910. the tale told is that Harrie's mother was the unmarried daughter of a fairly well to do family, and Harrie's father could well have been the Rabbi  They came from the Oldham/ West Yorkshire area.

Well, if he had a son in 1910 he could have been anything from about 16 to about 90 then .........!!

I still cannot see a birth for a Harrie Liptrott (at any time) in the birth indexes.

What definite info do you have about him - proved from a primary source, not hearsay!?

Have you the birth cert for the child he had in 1910? what does that say about him? was he married then? wifes name? Was this child reg as Whitaker or Liptrott?

It is best to work from what you know, for sure, back to the unknown, one step at a time, confirming each step as you go, before you move on.

Thanks for the Saddleworth birth I will look into that one. Harrie was married to a Charlotte Batho but I have not traced the marriage yet. I've got lots of work to do on this one yet!
