Manchester Genealogist & Diggle surname.
« on: Tuesday 10 March 09 23:02 GMT (UK) »
 Hi

I've just been looking at some old notes, for my Diggle family.

A couple of years ago I found information on two articles in the Manchester Genealogist.  I've bought a few odd copies from them and I saw an index, possibly in one of them and on line.

I'm wondering if anyone knows where there are copies of the early magazuines or has a copy and would not mind letting me have a copy.

These are the details.
"The Diggle Family of Prestwich", MG 23(1), 1987 20-21

and "The Diggles of Booth Hall", MG 26(2), 1990 , 54, Pedigree."

I emailed various libraries starting with Touch stones and each one either passed on the email or gave me an address and I did, because they did not have the articles, but thought they knew someone who would!

I think it was because it was a very early one.

Anyway, I never got the article!

Looking back at the old emeils, Touchstones  Rochdale, Middleton Library, Bury Library and Manchester Local Studies were among those tried.  Some emails have been deleted.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Emms

a google search is giving Bury Library for the Diggle family of Prestwich

http://www.rootschat.com/links/05sy/

see if this list helps, it has the magazine article and other items. There are  reference numbers which will make you sound like the expert you are  :D if you quote them!

Oooh!!  This looks exciting Barbara!  Thank You!

This wasn't there when I was looking.  Infact thinking about it' it's longer ago than I thought.  I gather the archives ate separate from the library in Bury?

It looks as if someone's extracted the article, rather than them having the magazine, so it wouldn't have come up before.  And loads of other stuff too!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  I can see me spending a long time on it later!  Then I'll email them!  I'll let you know what I hear!

Thank you for the kind comment by the way, not so sure about the expert but thank you anyway!

Berst wishes

Ha, you soon will be expert after ploughing thru all that lot  ;D

It sounds as if they have acquired a lot of stuff from Greater Manchester, so maybe it wasn't catalogued before

Have fun!

Hi!

Eeh and I thought I was just about partly getting my head around what had gone to greater Manchester instead of after Preston - like parts of various registers I wanted!  It's like chasing quick silver!

Thank you again!

Have you contacted the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society - address on their website, they may have back numbers or master copies.  There are several other articles with in their journals which may be helpful.
Sending PM.
