Culls of County Down-Clonallan, Kilbroney
« on: Friday 13 March 09 06:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, just signed up to the board. I am currently at a standstill, short of checking out registers in Down! My family came to the U.S. in the 1830s. A widow named Mary Cull, (we think nee McNulty) and her children immigrated to Chillicothe, Ohio. The children were Roger (1809), Charles (1811), Daniel (1814), John,(1816), Margaret, and Rosanna (1821). All born in Down. Her husband, (we've lost his name) but naming traditions would lead us to believe it was Daniel, must have died between 1822 and 1833, when Daniel came to the US. He was a seminarian and priest in Bardstown, KY and later Saratoga, NY. Charles, my ggg-grandfather married a Mary McShane from Crossmaglen, Armagh, but we have her parents and grandparents info. Interestingly, Roger Cull, a very rare name, shows up on the Flax Growers list in Clonallan Parish. It almost certainly is Charles and Roger's father or uncle. Another interesting fact that leads me to Clonallan or perhaps Kilbroney Parish (they're adjacent) is the name of Rosanna's husband. She married severalvmonths after arriving in Chillicothe. Her husband was an Edward Carville, with brothers John and Peter. It's some 25-30 years later, but in the Griffiths of 1864, there are about 10 Carvilles in Clonallan, all in contiguous townlands.
Does anyone have any info about Culls in Clonallan or Kilbroney Parishes? Thanks!
Ireland: Cull, McShane, McNulty, Delaney, McMyler, Carraher.
