10th Battery Royal Field Artillary
« on: Friday 13 March 09 15:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi

On one of my Family Headstone, there is a David Edwards, until recently we thought he had died in the 1st World War, but on closer inspection discovered he died in 1902.

Further searches found he had in died in Ahmadnagar India, and was part of the
Aldershot 10th Royal Field Artillery Driver/soldie Ref No 352 or 552.

Can anyone help with any more details, and which war would this have been, would it be the Boar????

Any info on David would be fantastic, as we have much on his brothers, but little on him

Thanks
Debbie

Hi Debbie

The Boer War took place in South Africa, so he was not involved in that when he died. You will have to get the death certificate using the references you have found. Can you post a copy of the scan, so others can have a go at deciphering the page. You will also need the volume reference. I take it you got it from Findmypast.

As he died in service they probably destroyed his papers 20 years later. Although it would be worth keeping your eye on Findmypast as they will be putting online surviving papers for men discharged between 1900 and 1913, in case they failed to destroy his. They aren’t expected until 2011 though.

About six men from the 10th Battery are listed in the Boer War medal roll, but not him.

How do you apply for a death cert, in this instance????

Have ordered many through GRO, but never had to do one like this before???

Thanks
