My Canvas (with or without Ancestry)
« on: Tuesday 17 March 09 04:30 GMT (UK) »
This feature is one of the best graphic programs I've ever seen for presenting your family history.

Even if you are not a registered user of ancestry you can use it for free to publish your tree, photos, documents etc. using their templates.  Just go to http://www.mycanvas.com and create an account.  It can be used for multiple generations and published in a book or format.  The hour long video demo is extremely helpful.  Either with their (rather expensive) publishing in a hard cover book or by printing the pages at home on your own printer, it's a real winner and worth checking out in my view.

I've been checking out ways to present the research I've completed on one line of my family tree, 4 generations of the Branson name.  It takes the form of a history in narrative form but I want to include extracts from the family tree, images, timelines, sources and so on.

I got totally befuddled trying different software programs like Microsoft Word and Serif PagePlusx4. Being technically challenged, I find written User Guides totally incomprehensible, just don't understand the jargon!  Thought I'd check out MyCanvas on Ancestry and I agree with Hiraeth that their demo videos are really helpful ~ I actually understood and followed the tutorials.  Although obviously the program is US orientated I think there are ways around that (I'm in the UK).  It helps if you have a tree on Ancestry, which I do, but it seems quite flexible and you can add stuff in and customise it.  I think I'll wade in and try it out since it's free to use.

Has anyone else tried this program.  If so, how did you get on with it?

I'll take that as a "no" then!  :P  So no-one on RC has ever tried using Ancestry's MyCanvas and is willing to say how they got on with it.  I'm surprised at that ... and disappointed  :-\   Oh well, I'll give it a go myself anyway  ::)
