Hi Scotland67

We do need a bit more information than that to be able to help you.

When did he own the shoe-shop?
Please let us know what information you do already have ie: ages, Census (if applicable), wife, children etc?

Cheers  :)

Hi again, thanks for the extra information.......but it's still not clear what you're after....by 'his family' do you mean any or all of:

* He and wife & children from the mariage forward? (possible privacy/living  issues therefore, with naming any children on this forum)
* His  natal family going backward and/or forward : ie his parent's background, what became of them; what became of any siblings)
* His wife's natal family going backward and/or forward? ie her parent's background, what became of them; what became of any siblings)

Do you have him on Census 1891 and 1901?
Do you have his  birth, death & marriage certificates?
A will?
Cemetery records?
Military records? (WW1?)

And, born in Torry 1883. Kincardine? Aberdeen or Fife?

I had a quick look on Census and didn't immediately see him coming up.
SP Index search shows 2 William George SLATER's were born between 1882 and 1884 - both in 1883. One registered in Kincardine. and the other in Banff.

Cheers

Is this his son who has written a book?
".......memories of Willie Slater as he grew up in the village of Portknockie.  Born in the 1920s he has written his recollections of growing up in Portknockie with stories of some of the well known characters and notable places in the village"
