CLOSED John FOSS - buried at Bournemouth
« on: Tuesday 24 March 09 23:18 GMT (UK) »
On a piece of paper I have,
" John Foss died 13 August 1910, buried at Bournemouth"
Does anyone have an idea how I might find out more precisely where?
Thanks, Toby Webb.

Hi

Can't help with the burial but he was 69 according to the entry on freebmd

Deaths September qtr 1910

John Foss aged 69  Christchurch  2b 362

Bournemouth  is in Hampshire - not Dorset so I will ask for your post to be moved to the Hampshire board

Bournemouth has moved to Dorset  :o

The boundary between Dorset and Hampshire was moved as part of local government reform in 1974.

Christchurch is also in Dorset.

Details of the cost of searching for, and getting a copy of, the burial register page from Christchurch Cemetery can be found here

It's not cheap. :(

John ROSS died in Hampshire but Genuki says that Dorset County Council have records of the area around Bournemouth, formerly in Hampshire but now in Dorset.
Toby will need to ask either Bournemouth or Christchurch councils to search for a burial in a municipal cemetery.  Otherwise he will need to see which local churches still had burial grounds that were still open in 1910.

To complete this file, I was able to find the grave  thanks to you all. The memorial turned out to be interesting being  made of oak and  very close to 100 years old. Quite a bit of the carved lettering is still legible. The style is Art Nouveau. Unfortunately there is no mention of a wife.
I appear unable to be able to attach a photograph for you all to see but many
thanks, Toby.

P.S. 18/2/2010  A photo can be seen on
