Old map of Toxteth Park?
« on: Wednesday 25 March 09 19:02 GMT (UK) »
I have just received some very good information concerning a branch of our family way back around 1800. Tales of wealthy ancestors, an unsuitable marriage, and elopement and subsequent disowning of the young lady concerned,

All very intriguing and I am hopeful that I can find out more about her some way or another.

In the meantime, I have found some of the family on the 1901 census.

The page shows two branches of the family living in neighbouring houses; lists the domestic staff and states that each of the homes had coachman's lodges. These houses are in Allet Road, Toxteth Park as far as I can decipher the very poor image on my screen.

I have Googled and searched but can't find this road at all. I wonder if anyone has any idea where I can find good maps from about this time. I have seen one on line but can't tell whether my road is on there so am reluctant to buy that.

Any help at all appreciated.

Hi, this may be of absolutely no use to you, but here goes.  You can purchase an old ordnance survey map, Liverpool (Princes Park) c. 1905.

You may be able to order it from your local library, the isbn number is as follows: 0-85054-412-2.

It is published by:  Alan Godfrey Maps
The Off Quay Building
Foundry Lane
Newcastle upon Tyne
NE6 1LH

It is one in a series, and the area you are looking for could be contained in another map.  There are maps for Edge Hill, Wavertree, Princes Park and Toxteth etc.

I have the Princes Park map and it shows Toxteth Park and the Workhouse enlarged, you may need a magnifying glass for the streets!!!

Hope that helps
