India: William Flowers India 1885
« on: Thursday 26 March 09 06:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi this is going to be a hard one and a long shot, but need ing help with a man named William Flowers Born in India in 1885. i have his death certificate but doesn't give me names of parents, how long he was in Australia etc....... it is all unknown.
what i can tell you was that he hung himself in Aberdeen (Scone NSW Australia area) in 1928 and is buried in an unmarked grave.
the story that i have been told is that william was married with children and had an affair and that is how my Grandmother was born.

what i would really like to know if his parents were English and were maybe working in India...etc..
Thankyou so much. Ness

Ness, maybe the Scone or Aberdeen local papers may have carried an item about his death... there would have been an inquest and maybe more personal detail came out in testimony.

Scone is a prosperous district ... why not email the Library there and ask if they archive newspapers from 1928, and also ask about undertakers who might have records etc... there would be a procedure for dealing with suicides.  Maybe his employers gave evidence at the inquest.

Thinking aloud here... just suggestions

Hi Brionne, it only says India on the death certificate, no place. Apparently through stories he was a Trooper (police horseman?) but on the death certificate it say's he is a labourer? could have retired from the police.  would say around the Scone area he was a trooper.

Hi CharlotteCH, it has on the certificate that the Coroner in Scone was W T Seaward.
the inquest was held at Aberdeen court house 4 jun 1928.
i will email the Library in Scone and see what they come back with.

Thankyou both so much. Ness :D

Ness,
a further thought: if the Scone Library doesn't come up with anything then the Armidale Library may be able to help.  It's not far from Scone and is a university town so maybe has bigger archives... but try Scone first.

The photo of the baby that i have as my photo is William Flowers baby girl. My grandmother Iris. She never met him.
it was all hush hush, bit of a scandle back then in 1918.
and especially if he was married with children..... actually it may be a good idea to find when he married and if he married in Australia, it could have his birth parents on it. Ness

NSW Vital Records are online and searchable free... Scone is in NSW but he may have married anywhere... but start with NSW.

If he did marry and filled the form out fully it will have his parents' names, from memory--- my memory isn't all that crash hot on details from way back.
