Hi xin,  :)

This link should tell you everything you need to know .. here is part of what it says ..

On the night of Saturday 19 December 1942, there was a fire at a store in Hayes, Middlesex. The store, the responsibility of the Office of Works, contained a large amount of furniture but in addition it contained the census records for England & Wales for 1931, that is the whole of the schedules, enumeration books and plans. They were all completely destroyed.

It wasn't until I posted that Xin .. I realised that's the one both my parents would have been on as children, as I'm sure is the case for a lot of us .. ?  :(

yes ... I guess that will be the case .. and our children will be the ones ... not able to get the results they need.....

SO if we know now where - what and when... we should do our own 'Mini' Records -- for them.. maybe

snooze time  ... night Pels..

Oh my goodness!

I don't envy the next generation of researchers, how frustrating!  ;D

I would hope I'd still be around though so if anyone in my family fancies doing some research I can impart my wisdom.  ;)

I think this has already been discussed elsewhere within Rootschat, but take a look at this, it does offer some hope, albeit basic, from 1939.  :)

The 1939 records will be even more important for the next generation of researchers as there was not a census in 1941 because of the war.  After 1921, the next available is 1951.
