Leahy Family Fethard Tipperary
« on: Sunday 29 March 09 16:20 BST (UK) »
Please can anyone help me re the Leahy family of Fethard, Tipperary.  My great grandfather was Thomas leahy, born 1872, in Fethard.  He married a Margaret Ryan, again in Fethard.  They had ten children, the eldest of which was my maternal grandmother Catherine (Katie) Leahy.  The family lived in Chapel Lane Fethard for many years - to my knowledge the house is still there.  Catherine married a british soldier, William Bedford, again in Fethard in 1916. If anyone could help I'd be very grateful, thanks, Anderton

Thomas Leahy  Male
Birth:  14 AUG 1872   , Tipperary, Ireland

If the above record is for the correct Thomas Leahy he had a sister Mary born 17 Oct.1875 Co.Tipperary (from IGI- www.familysearch.org).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Brendan you're a star!  This is the same Leahy family.  Do you have any more info on Thomas's grandparents please, or can you let me know where I can look it all up?  Thank you so much for replying, Regards, Eileen

Hi Ann,

The BVI is the British Vital Index which is a series of CD's which record BMD's from 1864 to about 1875, they are quite usefull as you can do a parent search, also in your case they give more information like the birth was in Fethard.
