1841/51/61 lookup KNIGHT please

I would very much appreciate any lookups for KNIGHTs in Houghton Regis or Leighton Buzzard or Dunstable

The following is from the 1871 Census Houghton Regis:

High St.
David KNIGHT head Mar 29 bricklayer born Beds Houghton Regis
Amelia KNIGHT wife Mar 23 straw sewer born Beds Leighton Buzz.
Arthur KNIGHT son 4 born Beds Hougton Regis
Leonard KNIGHT son 1 born Leighton Buzz.

David KNIGHT's father was possibly James KNIGHT.

Also from the 1871 Census in Dunstable

High St. South
Joseph KNIGHT head wid 56 agricultural labourer Beds Houghton Regis
George KNIGHT son unm 27 bricklayer Beds Dunstable
Sarah KNIGHT daur unm 23 straw bonnet sewer Beds Dunstable

28/3/1818. John Duncombe otp and Rebecca Stokes otp were married by banns.

Could not read who the witness were other than a "Scott". John signed the register.

On Thomas Knight's marriage,  do you recall if the residences of the fathers John Knight and John Duncomb were given as Houghton Regis (or elsewhere?)

I've had a look again at the 1881 census ... it turns out there were 2 David KNIGHTs born in Houghton Regis.

DAVID No. 1.

David KNIGHT, age 37 (born ca 1844), head, Houghton Regis, bricklayer; Amelia KNIGHT,age 34 (born ca 1847), Leighton Buzzard
in 1881 in Luton no 26 Burr St. with son Leonard age 11 (born ca 1870) in Leighton Buzzard.

And this marriage;
David KNIGHT age 21 father Thomas KNIGHT m. Amelia SMITH age 18 father  James SMITH
14 AUG 1864      Houghton Regis, Bedford, England

This looks like the David that you found in the the 1851 census

Unfortunately they do not give the abode for the parents of the marriage partners. The parish registers are of  the same format from 1837.

From Houghton Regis parish register the following:-

MARRIAGE

20/12/1804 John Knight of Houghton Regis to Sarah Stokes of Houghton Regis after banns.

BURIAL

22/1/1852 John Knight of Thorn, parish of Houghton Regis aged 83 years.

1851 census which looks as though it may be a connection.

THORN, HOUGHTON REGIS

James Knight,Head,M, 36,Ag/Lab, Bds Oney. ??
Mary Knight,Wife,M, 36, St/Plaiter,Bds, Toddington.
Joseph Knight, Son, 15, Shepherd, Bds, Thorn.
Elizabeth Knight, Dau, 12, St/Plaiter, Bds Thorn.
David Knight, Son, 8, St/Plaiter, Bds, Thorn.
Sarah Knight, Dau, 4, St/Plaiter, Bds, Thorn.

I think James birthplace may be "Olney" in Bucks.

It seems possible that Thomas and James were brothers. The only other "Knights" apart from the two families is a William Knight lodging in the High Street, unmarried aged 42, born Houghton Regis.

Oh this is just super! 

I'm tracing back the family of John and Sarah KNIGHT... and hopefully will link this family to that of my 4g-grandfather, John KNIGHT, born Houghton Regis about 1818. He moved on to Aldenham in Herts. I've yet to find a baptism for him. But it looks on the surface like this KNIGHT family was the only one in Houghton Regis at this time, so I will keep on digging!

William, Thomas, Joseph, James and Hannah were all baptised 21 Jul 1816 in Houghton Regis, parents John and Sarah KNIGHT, according to the IGI.

I've found a William KNIGHT in the 1871 census at the workhouse in Luton, unmarried, age 64, farm labourer, born Houghton Regis, which looks possibly like the same one that you've found lodging in the High Street in 1851.

This James is very possibly
James KNIGHT marr MARY Howe 27 JUL 1834 in Houghton Regis.

The 1851 lists James' father!! which is a bonus as this marriage was a few years too early for the registration. And a double bonus to have this census and the burial to give the elder John's age.

I certainly agree with you that it looks possible that James and Thomas were brothers.

Again not sure if this is of any use but did not see a bap for a John Knight around the suggested date.
