John POOL/E Labourer or Yeoman
« on: Monday 30 March 09 02:19 BST (UK) »
I am not sure I have the correct parents for Grace Rowe Pool b1819 married  at Madron 24/06/1843 to John Reynolds, and would appreciate comments.

The marriage PR  at Madron, says brides residence Luthergwearne, father John Pool a Labourer

A birth  PR I have found at Buryan says: Grace Rowe Poole 30/05/1819 parents John and Jane, residence Trevorgans, Fathers rank: Yeoman

The surname is spelt with an E added ?, and the occupation of the father as a Yeoman is a bit of a jump from Labourer.

Do you think this is the same persons please.

Hi Ambers,

He may have only farmed a small amount of land for a short time. I would not rule him out as a father because of this, particularly when other facts match, including a middle name. Harder times may have befallen the family between Grace's Birth and her marriage. Yeoman has numerous meanings one of which is a diligent, dependable worker.

In this case I think the 1841 census will clarify that John POOLL 55 Lab and his son John 20 Miner are residing at Trevorgans St Buryan. I note Grace Rowe POOLE had a brother John POOLE bap 10 June 1821 to John and Jane. John was a Yeoman residence Trevorgan Buryan. They are living at the same place.

A lot of these people were not terribly literate. I would not be concerned about the spelling. The family are still living at the same address they were living at at the time of Grace's baptism.

Cheers Kris  :)
