Mary Jane Williams Death date - TreharrisCOMPLETED

Hi there,  I am looking for the death certificate for my great grandmother who died in 1984 (but could be 1983) just days before her 100th birthday in Merthyr hospital.  No one in my family can be sure exactly when.

I thought it would be easy to find seeing as she was nearly 100 but no luck.  She was born as Mary jane Thomas in Treharris and lived in Webster Street and married William Francis about 1902.

She married again to a David Williams after her first husband died from mustard gas poisoning sometime after WW1.

So I have three surnames to go on but am totally stuck on her date of death which would give me a clue to her date of birth.

I have checked the full GRO index for 1983 and there is no Mary Jane Williams death any older than the one above

Thanks for looking through the death index's for me so promptly.  I cant tell how many times I have gone over them and what you found for me confirms that there is no exact match for the details I have. 

Maybe somewhere along the way age of death has got confused or she was registered at death under a different christian name! 

So now I will stop looking for a Mary Jane and maybe invesigate other names she may have used. 

It was very helpful to know that it wasn't just me not being able to find anything - it was driving me round the bend because I actually knew my great grandmother - so I know she existed and died at that time!

I might try a post on the general message board to see if anyone knows the family.

Whoever reported her death may have got her birthyear wrong but I doubt they would have got her christian names wrong

Have you thought about buying a copy of that 98yr olds death cert to see if the details on it tie in with what you know about her?

I know it may be £7 down the drain if it's the wrong one - but if it's the right one - mystery solved

I think I will probably have to do that but the only thing is, that I was told she died days before her 100th birthday so I was going on the fact that her death month would be the same as her birth month with 100 years in between unless it was the beginning or the end of the month.  With the christian name - my uncle who stayed with her during the war said that people called her Marie - and I have tried that name also, but I was going on the name on her birth certificate being Mary Jane.

Oh well, I will keep on grilling my relatives - someone must know the date!
