What does his say please?
« on: Tuesday 07 April 09 16:50 BST (UK) »
This entry is from the 1851 census (HO 107 2052).  I have been trying to read the occupation of the first person, also the actual name of the second person, can anyone help please?

On the transcription of the second person's name it does say Hy B Cox, can anyone throw any light onto it?

Many thanks
Ewan

Actually I think the occupation is your old favourite....brewer  ;D

Off to 1841 to see if I can work out his wife's name.

I did think it may have said brewer, but my old favourite would of been jeweller, not many of them about with that name it seems.

I wondered whether the wife's name may have been Elizabeth as I found the couple on the IGI with those/some of the children.  Also what a name change from Hy b to Elizabeth , the mind boggles :-\.

Any chance they can be found on the 1861 census please?

Many thanks
Ewan

I don't think it ever said Henry  :o

It looks like Eliz followed by a high th to me.

Will try for 1861 for you next.

Funny name for a lady is Henry I thought.  I think the transciption of Hy B is all wrong, it looks like Eliz b so perhaps her name was Elizabeth, as mentioned it ties up with information from the IGI.

Thanks for help with the 1861 as well.

You just pipped me to the post with that last reply.  Anyway, thanks for the 1861 information and helping to read what the occupation and name said in the first place.

Poor Anne wasn't born anywhere, I feel like that sometimes :-\

All the best
Ewan
